 Power Protection > Total Protection

What is Total Power Protection Solution?  This is when a consumer has "bulletproofed" their system by installing a UPS on servers and critical workstations, SurgeArrests on workstations, and ProtectNets on their datalines.

The Need for ProtectNet

Why use a ProtectNet? To protect your equipment from the harmful dataline transients that enter your computer through unprotected datalines.

What happens if I don't use a ProtectNet? Without ProtectNet, your equipment and valuable data are susceptible to non-AC line surge events that can damage modems, network interface cards, motherboards, hubs, etc.

How are dataline surges caused? Electrostatic discharge (electricity in the air), coupling from electrical line (surge jumps onto dataline from nearby AC power), and potential differences between safety grounds of different network components all create dataline surges.

When do I need dataline protection? You can experience dataline surges on any length of cable.  The longer the cable, however, the more susceptible it is to damaging surges.  If the cable length is greater than six feet, then you should protect your critical equipment.

What is Breakover Voltage? It is the voltage where the active components in the ProtectNet shunt the additional voltage on the line to the ground.

What is a "back door" surge?  People protect their AC lines without realizing that other paths besides the AC line (including telephone lines, ethernet lines and cable TV lines) are typically not protected and are open to damaging surges.

Some ProtectNet units look alike, are they?  No.  Each product has a different breakover voltage and only protects the lines for which it was intended.
